Abe facing conflicting pressure over shrine visit, Kyodo says

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said in parliament Monday that he will try to amend US relations that have been overshadowed by his visit to the Yasukuni Shrine, which commemorates Japan’s war-dead including World War II criminals, Kyodo news agency reported. Meanwhile, a legislator highly praised Abe’s visit to the war shrine, saying that it is what a Japanese leader should do. As US President Barack Obama plans to visit Japan in April, Japan is eager to ease the effects of Abe’s shrine visit and enhance the partnership between the two countries, the report said.
