Demand for private car rental held up during the Lunar New Year holiday despite rising rates, Oriental Morning Post reported Tuesday. Bookings were 80 percent full for the week preceding the holiday and were up to 100 percent in some key tourist cities, the report said, citing eHi Auto Services data. About 65 percent of customers used rental cars to travel to their hometowns and more than 30 percent for cross-country drives, according to China Auto Rental. Holiday rental rates were two to three times normal levels, with daily rental for a Toyota Camry sedan hitting 702 yuan (US$115.80), the report said.
