WeChat traffic hits 10 mln messages per minute, paper says

Tencent Holdings Ltd. (00700.HK) said the volume of messages on its WeChat instant messaging service reached up to 10 million messages per minute on Jan. 30, Lunar New Year’s eve, Beijing Evening News reported Monday. The five provinces or cities with the heaviest WeChat traffic were Beijing, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Liaoning and Jiangsu, which together accounted for 40 percent of the global WeChat messaging volume, the report said. Many people have opted for WeChat over the traditional short message service to exchange holiday greetings, it added.
