Health authorities in Mongolia have confirmed an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Sukhbaatar province, the official Xinhua news agency reported Tuesday. Eighty-six head of cattle of 15 herder families are infected and 82 were culled. Symptoms were observed in three sites, the report said. Despite a nationwide effort to contain it, the outbreak continues to spread across the country, a senior health official was quoted as saying. Mongolian authorities are testing and vaccinating livestock in nearby counties and disinfection stations have been set up in key areas, the report said.
