Shaanxi to cut back on coal-fired power, Xinhua says

Shaanxi’s Environmental Protection Bureau aims to cut the province’s reliance on coal-fired power to within 138 million metric tons, or to 67 percent of total energy use, by 2017, Xinhua reported Wednesday. The bureau plans to put limits on coal consumption and step up monitoring of the quality of the fuel used. The province also plans to increase use of natural gas and geothermal heating, and ensure all coal-fired power generators of 300,000 kilowatts or above are equipped with desulphurization devices, the report said.
