Holiday movies break box office records, paper says

Mainland movie box office sales hit a one-day record of 245 million yuan (US$40.41 million) on January 31, the first day of the Chinese New Year, Chongqing Wanbao reported Friday, without citing the previous benchmark. Total box office sales over the seven-day holiday came in at a record 1.24 billion yuan, well above the 755 million yuan recorded for the same break in 2013. “The Monkey King”, starring Donnie Yen and Chow Yun-fat, smashed the premiere day box office record with 122 million yuan, while “Dad, Where Are We Going?” took in 92 million yuan on its first day, the report said.
