Henan expands hospital access to basic drugs, paper says

Henan province has expanded the list of medicines that hospitals can buy directly to encourage drugmakers to manufacture cheaper pharmaceuticals, National Business Daily reported Tuesday, citing sources from the Henan Medicine Purchasing Service Center. The province added 167 low-margin, basic drugs that manufacturers did not make because the returns were too low. Hospitals can now buy the drugs themselves as long as the prices are within a stipulated range. Beijing, Guangdong, Shanghai and Shandong are set to follow Henan’s lead, the report said.
