Search giant Baidu Inc. has established a film production outfit to be based in Los Angeles, California, China Daily reported Tuesday, citing a report from The Hollywood Reporter. Aquamen Entertainment, the name of the venture, will be run by South Korean filmmaker Kim Jeong-jung and Chinese producer Gary Zhang. Its first investment will be a US$40 million animation feature, Kong, based on the Chinese classic novel Journey to the West but incorporating Hollywood sci-fi elements such as aliens and robots, the report said. Baidu has declined to comment, it added.
