China, India meet on border problem, report says

China and India have agreed to step up discussions for a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable framework for solving their border problem, the official Xinhua news agency reported Tuesday. At a two-day meeting held in New Delhi from Monday through Tuesday, Chinese Special Representative and State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Indian Special Representative and National Security Advisor Shivsharkar Menon said both sides have maintained a good momentum in the border talks, effectively controlled and managed disputes and differences and created good conditions for the healthy and smooth development of bilateral relations. They also agreed to let existing mechanisms on the border issue to play their full role, and implement the relevant agreement for maintaining peace and tranquility, the report said.
