New plans seen on water, soil pollution prevention, paper says

The Chinese government is expected to launch new action plans this year to curb water and soil pollution, the Shanghai Securities News reported Wednesday, citing industry sources. The Ministry of Environmental Protection is drafting the plans now, it said. Luo Jianhua, an official with All-China Federation of Industry & Commerce, was quoted as saying that the country could invest around 2 trillion yuan (US$327.9 billion) on water pollution treatment and prevention.
