The Beijing municipal government aims to shut about 300 companies this year in an anti-pollution drive, government portal gov.cn reported Wednesday. The companies affected are involved in industries such as foundries, asphalt, tiles and petrochemicals, it said. Starting April, Beijing will also halt approvals for new production facilities in steel, cement, coke, non-ferrous metals, electrolytic aluminum, flat panel glass and alloy sectors, it said. In other initiatives, the government will conduct a green audit on the production processes of 100 companies this year, the report said.
