One year of talks has ended with a deal for Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. Ltd. (601238.CN, 02238.HK) (GAC) to start building a plant in the second half to make Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ Jeep-branded cars, National Business Daily reported Thursday, citing unidentified sources. But there was no agreement on details of domestic Jeep production, according to an unnamed person in GAC’s car unit. The plant is expected to be up and running in 2016 but Jeep production might start before then at GAC Fiat Automobiles Co. Ltd.’s Changsha plant. Jeep sales in China rose 29 percent in 2013 from a year earlier, making it the largest overseas market for Fiat, the report said.
