China Telecom Corp. Ltd. (00728.HK) is officially rolling out its fourth-generation mobile services on Friday, becoming the second carrier to offer the service after China Mobile Ltd. (00941.HK), the National Business Daily reported Friday. China Telecom’s strategy is to first launch 4G data SIM cards as no 4G handsets could be launched at the moment without the necessary license for its LTE-FDD standard. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology may hand out the LTE-FDD license on May 17, the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, industry sources were quoted as saying. China Telecom will unveil seven 4G monthly plans, from 40 yuan (US$6.60) for 400 megabytes of data usage to 280 yuan for 10 gigabytes, the report said.
