Deutsche Bank’s Ma Jun eyed as PBoC chief economist, paper says

Deutsche Bank’s Greater China chief economist Ma Jun is set to be appointed as the chief economist of the People’s Bank of China’s Research Institute of Finance, becoming one of the very few senior executives the central bank recruited from outside the organization over the past few years, China Business News reported Friday. The Research Institute is currently headed by PBoC vice governor Pan Gongsheng. Ma previously held economist positions at the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Ma recently said analysts from foreign banks have taken an overly pessimistic view of China’s economy, which he believes will see an 8.6 percent growth in 2014, the report said.
