No clarity in Xi-Ma meeting this fall, paper says

Wang Yu-chi {王郁琦}, Taiwan’s minister for mainland affairs who made a historic visit to China this week, declined to comment on whether Chinese President Xi Jinping {習近平} and his Taiwan counterpart Ma Ying-jeou {馬英九} will meet this fall, United Daily News reported Friday. Wang said that during a casual meeting in Shanghai on Thursday, he and Zhang Zhijun {張志軍}, director of the State Council’s Taiwan Affairs Office, exchanged ideas on the topic, which was not a part of the agenda for his mainland visit. Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office, had said in a press conference in January that Beijing has been calling for a meeting between the two leaders for the benefit of both sides, the report said.
