Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said China should treat the United States-led Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) the same as the World Trade Organization which has helped it become stronger and more competitive, news portal Caixin.com reported Friday. In an interview earlier this month, Lee said the Chinese economy will benefit from Beijing’s membership in the TPP, although some domestic industries might have to make significant changes. China has shown interest in the emerging trade alliance but is in no rush to be a founding member, the report said. Lee expressed hope all 21 members of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation, including China, would eventually join TPP.
