Govt to give lay of land on smart-city growth, paper says

The State Council will lay out its guidelines for the healthy development of smart cities, an area in which more than 80 percent of the country’s first and second-tier cities have already listed their goals, the China Securities Journal reported Monday, citing the Blue Book of China’s Surveying, Mapping and Geographic Information. The National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology and various other departments will oversee work in the area, according to the Blue Book. Total investment in transport is estimated to be near 4 trillion yuan (US$659.35 billion) between 2013 and 2015 and a key part of that outlay will be to create smart transport systems in smart cities, the report said.
