Labor shortage hits Pearl River Delta, website says

Many firms based in the Pearl River Delta are having a hard time recruiting enough workers even after offering a 20 percent hike in wages, China.com.cn reported Monday, citing the results of a survey. Firms will face greater pressure in finding workers this year as the ratio of job openings to applicants has risen from 1.4 in 2013, the news portal said, citing data from recruitment website job168.com. As economic growth spreads to inland areas, many people in the central and western regions are now reluctant to migrate to the coastal provinces to look for work, the report said, adding that the southern city of Guangzhou alone is short of 123,000 workers.
