China average internet download speed at 3.53 Mb/s, paper says

China has enhanced the downloading speed of its fixed-line broadband networks, reaching an average of 3.53 megabits per second in the second half of 2013 or 20.4 percent faster than in the previous six months, the Beijing Times reported Tuesday, citing data from the Broadband Development Alliance. For network videos, the downloading speed has increased by 75 percent from the first half.  Shanghai led the country in terms of internet speed, while the number of provinces with an average downloading speed above 3 Mbits per second has grown to 22 in the second half of 2013 from just six in the first six months, the report said.
