The central government is set to unveil a package of measures on soil environment protection this year, the China Securities Journal reported Tuesday. China has been lagging behind developed countries such as the United States and those in Europe on spending on soil protection and its percentage to the gross domestic product. The country plans to develop its soil environment protection industry into a market worth 685.6 billion yuan (US$113.08 billion) by 2020. In 2013, China kicked off 42 projects to develop the sector, of which 19 were government-led. As of September 2013, the number of corporations specializing in soil environment protection grew to more than 300, up from just above 20 back in 2011, the report said.
