Wuhan, capital of central China’s Hubei province, will invest 28 billion yuan (US$4.59 billion) to cut air pollution in the next five years, Xinhua news agency reported Tuesday, citing the city’s environmental protection authority. Wuhan aims to reduce fine particulate matter by 20 percent by 2017 from 2012 levels. The initiative will target vehicular and industrial emissions which are major contributors to air pollution. Wuhan will fully adopt National V emission standards for diesel and gasoline engines by the end of this year and next, respectively, the report said.
