Taiwan’s China Airlines Ltd. and Eva Airways Corp. called on Chinese regulators to allow mainland air travelers to take flight transfers on the island for travel to the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia, United Daily News reported Thursday. The request was put forward at a cross-strait meeting in Changsha on Wednesday, it said. Taiwan has allowed its people to transfer flights in the mainland since cross-strait direct flights began in 2009, but China has not done the same yet. At present, about 60 percent of Chinese air travelers to the US are said to be taking flight transfers in Seoul, Tokyo or Hong Kong. Taiwan carriers are eager to grab a slice of this market.
