Private study points to high Chinese consumer morale, paper says

A study by market research firm Nielsen has shown that Chinese consumer confidence hit a new high in the fourth quarter of 2013, Shanghai Daily reported Thursday. The index reached a record high of 111 points, gaining 3 points since the beginning of the year, it said. The intention to spend was the highest in more than three years, at 47 percent, in the fourth quarter, Nielsen was quoted as saying. People’s perception about job prospects also jumped to the highest level since mid-2012 to 75 percent, it said.
