China remains No.1 in patent applications, report says

China received 825,000 invention patent applications last year, a 26.3 percent increase over the previous year and marking the highest in the world for the third consecutive year, China Daily reported Friday, citing the State Intellectual Property Office. Of the applications, 208,000 were granted, including 147,000 filed by domestic applicants, it said. The country held 587,000 valid domestic invention patents by the end of 2013 and has realized the goal it set in 2011 in the 12th Five-Year Plan, the report said.
