Danone bolsters China baby food business after scare, WSJ says

Danone SA is convinced efforts to restore the group’s baby-food business in China will begin to yield results by the end of the year, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. The company will eventually be in a better position in the country after a food safety warning from its key supplier Fonterra Co-Operative Group Ltd. last year prompted the recall of thousands of cans of baby formula across eight Asian markets, the report said. Danone is investing in a broader product range in China after it relied almost entirely on its Dumex brand in the past, which saw sales tumble in the aftermath of the product recall, it said.
