Red ginseng prices double as crop shrinks, paper says

Red ginseng is fetching up to 800 yuan (US$131) per kilogram on Jilin province’s ginseng market, double the prices paid a year ago, the Shanghai Securities News reported Friday, citing dealers. Prices began shooting up in the third quarter of last year, an unnamed ginseng dealer was quoted as saying, predicting that they still had further to go. Earlier low prices dampened farmers’ interest in ginseng but prices have risen as less land has been planted with the crop and labor costs have increased, a business insider said.
