China tightens rules on false advertising, paper says

China has tightened rules to curb false advertising, the National Business Daily reported Monday, citing the law office under the State Council. According to the proposed amendments to the China Advertising Law, which have been released to gather feedback from the public, heavier penalties will be imposed for violations, and celebrities are subject to legal responsibilities should they endorse inferior or fake products. Companies are also prohibited from sending advertisements to individuals via mobile phones or emails without securing their permission, the report said.
