Fewer cities report home price rise in January, NBS says

Sixty-two of 70 major Chinese cities reported an increase in the average price of new homes in January, three cities less than in the previous month, according to data posted on the National Bureau of Statistics website on Monday. The average month-on-month new home price growth in the 70 cities was lower at 0.49 percent, compared with 0.51 percent in December last year. Liu Jianwei, a senior NBS statistician, attributed the lower price increase to strict curbs on home purchases and tight availability of new loans for developers, the statement said.
