Proposed Guangdong FTZ footprint to shrink, paper says

Guangdong’s proposed free trade zone covers a smaller area than expected, encompassing just 7.8 square kilometres of Nansha’s bonded area rather than originally planned 803 square kilometers, the Shanghai Securities News reported Monday, citing Guangzhou mayor Chen Jianhua on Saturday at the provincial People’s Conference. According to the province’s plan in September, the zone was to include Baiyun International Airport’s bonded area and the three new areas of Nansha, Qianhai and Hengqin, the report said. Another proposal will now be submitted for an airport economic zone covering 7.4 square kilometers.
