Tourist attractions in Beijing are experiencing a significant decline in visitor numbers due to the ‘orange’ smog alert in the city, China Daily reported Wednesday. A new report issued by Beijing authorities this week indicates that the concentration of PM2.5, or fine particulate matter, has risen, prompting the pollution warning. According to Beijing Tourism bureau, popular tourist spots had been affected by the smog in terms of tourist numbers. At the Palace Museum, the number of visitors was only 11,200 on Monday, far below the normal daily figure of 40,000, the report said.
