China Southern cuts first, business class fares, paper says

China Southern Airlines Co. Ltd. (01055.HK, 600029.CN) has lowered fares for first class and business class on 157 domestic routes, with the biggest cut being 1,430 yuan (US$233) or a 23 percent discount on a one-way Chengdu-Urumqi flight, the National Business Daily reported Wednesday. Official air travels on first/business class seats have decreased substantially amid the government’s austerity campaign, prompting carriers to adjust their fares, the report said. China Southern’s move could trigger a price war among domestic airlines, an unnamed ticketing agent was quoted as saying.
