Beijing offers 1,000 yuan for second-child waiver, report says

The Beijing City Health and Family Planning Commission is offering each eligible couple a one-off reward of no less than 1,000 yuan (US$163.33) for giving up in writing the right to bear a second child, news website Caijing.com reported Wednesday. The local government announced last Friday it is allowing families to have a second child, if one of the parents is a single child. Previously, couples were only allowed to expand their families if both parents were a single child, the report said.
