BMW reaches for new models to hit China sales target, paper says

German luxury carmaker BMW AG will roll out a series of new imported and locally made car models in China in its bid to sell 400,000 units this year, National Business Daily reported Thursday, citing Karsten Engel, group president for China. Engel, who took the job last year, said the company’s growth in China over the next few years will be mainly spurred by domestic models, which one dealer said might account for more than 60 percent of BMW’s total sales in China this year. BMW’s share of the mainland luxury car market rose to 28 percent at end-2012 from 21 percent in 2009, the report said.
