WTO panel puts China to steel compliance test, Xinhua says

China’s implementation of World Trade Organization rulings in a steel dispute with the United States will come under the microscope of a WTO Dispute Settlement Body panel, Xinhua reported Thursday. A panel of trade experts will investigate China’s compliance in a dispute over countervailing and anti-dumping duties on grain oriented flat-rolled electrical steel (GOES) from the US, the report said. GOES is a high-tech, high-value magnetic specialty steel used mainly by the power industry in transformers, reactors, and large electric machines, it said. The panel’s investigation will take 90 days.
