ARATS chief urges more cross-strait cooperation, paper says

Chen Deming, head of the mainland’s Association for Relations across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), has called for more communication and deeper two-way exchanges between the mainland and Taiwan, United Daily News reported Friday. In a meeting Thursday with Taiwan’s mainland affairs chief, Wang Yu-chi, Chen said he hoped to see more cross-strait exchanges in education, technology, culture, agriculture and fishing. Meanwhile, Wang said that any future cross-strait deal will still go through ARATS and Taiwan’s Straits Exchange Foundation, the report said.
