CSRC to revise M&A rules for listed firms this year, paper says

The China Securities Regulatory Commission plans to revise rules governing mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activities involving listed firms this year to improve the system, the 21st Century Business Herald reported Friday, citing unnamed officials of the regulator. While the proposed rules will ease administrative approval procedures, brokerages and investment banks may need to change their business structures to comply with the new requirements, the report said. According to data from the Securities Association of China, 114 brokerages saw a combined net income of 1.72 billion yuan (US$280.68 million) from their financial advisory business in the first half of 2013, up 90.2 percent from a year earlier.
