The toughest smoking regulations in the country will go into effect on Shenzhen from March 1, the Global Times reported Thursday, citing the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily. Smokers face fines of up to 500 yuan (US$81.60) and business operators penalties of up to 30,000 yuan for breaking the rules, the report said. Smoking is prohibited in government buildings, schools and medical institutions. Organizations that give out promotional materials for tobacco are subject to a maximum fine of 100,000 yuan, the New Express reported.
