China imported 83.6 tons of gold from Hong Kong in January, up 326 percent from the same month last year, news portal Sina.com.cn reported Friday, citing Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department data. The figure was 9 percent lower than in December 2013. China was the largest importer of gold in 2013 when it bought 1,158 tons of the yellow metal from Hong Kong, up 107 percent from a year earlier, Bloomberg reported. For the two years to 2013, Hong Kong exported 1,930 tons of gold to the mainland, the report said.
