Guangdong FTZ bid awaiting ministerial approvals, report says

Guangdong province’s bid to set up a free-trade zone is awaiting approval from various ministries, ahead of the final nod required from the State Council, the Economic Information Daily reported Tuesday, citing Wang Jingwu, president of the Guangzhou branch of the People’s Bank of China. In response to media speculation on wider financial reform in the Guangdong FTZ model, Wang said the southern province’s initiatives will be not be identical to those in Shanghai, the report said, adding that the official did not elaborate. At present, Guangdong and Tianjin remain the front-runners to become the second free-trade zone in China, the report noted.
