Gates-backed engine maker in China joint venture, WSJ says

A start-up backed by Microsoft Inc. founder Bill Gates and venture capitalist Vinod Khosla has set up a joint venture with an affiliate of Chinese carmaker FAW Group Corp. to help put the start-up’s next generation of engines into mass production, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday. US-based EcoMotors Inc. said it aims to take part in China’s efforts to fight pollution through its engines, which offer up to 20 percent greater fuel economy and are around 30 percent lighter than traditional engines. The joint venture will initially focus on building diesel engines in China, the report said.
