Govt targets 11 mln urban jobs this year, finance minister says

Employment will be a top priority this year for the Chinese government which is targeting 11 million urban jobs, Finance Minister Lou Jiwei {樓繼偉} told a media briefing on the sidelines of the 12th National People’s Congress in Beijing. The government has enough wiggle room after it set a gross domestic product growth target of 7.5 percent for 2014, Lou said. Meanwhile, it will extend a value-added tax trial scheme into the property sector, financial services and living services. A comprehensive income tax system will be the next step. In addition, the government will increase funding for public security in the civil aviation and rail sectors which eventually will be directly managed by central authorities, Lou said.
