China expands easier customs policy, paper says

China has expanded a relaxed customs policy that allows qualified businesses to declare cargo in their local port of registration rather than the point of entry or departure, China Daily reported Thursday. The policy has helped increase monthly freight volume 5.77 percent to 19.14 million tons since Nov. 1 and benefited more than 330,000 companies in March alone, Zhang Guangzhi, a spokesman for the General Administration of Customs, was quoted as saying. A growing number of domestic enterprises will become more competitive as a result of the policy expansion, the report said.
