China is expected to have installed nuclear power capacity of 60 million kilowatts by 2020, National Business Daily reported Tuesday, citing estimates from industry insiders. Demonstration projects have shown good results in the sector which will benefit from the government’s anti-pollution fight, the report said. The Sanmen nuclear power project in Zhejiang’s Jiantiao town is said to have helped boost the local gross domestic product to 4.44 billion yuan in 2013 from 2.23 billion yuan (US$363.23 million) in 2007. Presently, eight coastal provinces have, or are building, nuclear power stations. Many others are applying for new plants as they have realized the projects’ potential to drive economic growth, the report said.
