Coolpad signs 10 bln yuan sales deal with Jingdong, paper says

Chinese mobile phone maker Coolpad and e-commerce operator Jingdong Corp. have signed a 10 billion yuan (US$1.63 billion) deal for Coolpad to sell its products through Jingdong’s online platform, the 21st Century Business Herald reported Wednesday, citing a joint statement by the two companies. Coolpad vice president Li Bin said that in the next fiscal year the company aims to have between 30 billion yuan and 40 billion yuan in sales, of which 10 billion yuan will come from Jingdong and another 2 billion yuan from its proprietary e-commerce channel. The deal marks a sales strategy switch by phone makers to e-commerce as competition heats up, the report said.
