Shanghai to boost environmental industry output, paper says

Shanghai aims to boost its environmental protection industry output by around 15 percent this year as the city steps up efforts to cut pollution, Shanghai Securities News reported Wednesday, citing the municipal government. The city will strictly control coal consumption this year and further boost the use of natural gas as well as other green energy such as wind and solar power, the paper said. Meanwhile, it will set emissions quotas for high energy-consumption sectors like steel, cement, petrochemicals and non-ferrous metals.
