Deals put China on target for shale gas output, paper says

Progress in shale gas development by China’s two oil majors suggest the country could meet its 2015 production target for the fuel, Shanghai Daily reported Thursday, citing the Shanghai Securities News. China Petrochemical Corp. signed a deal this month with the Chongqing authorities to produce 5 billion cubic meters per year by 2015 at its Fuling project, while China National Petroleum Corp is ready to start commercial production with more wells coming on stream at its main Changning-Weiyuan shale block in Sichuan, the report said. The progress shows China could meet its annual output target of 6.5 billion cubic meters by the end of next year, it said.
