Police arrested five people from two nurseries in Xi’an, the capital of northwestern China’s Shaanxi province, over the unauthorized feeding of flu medicines to children over the past five years, news portal Sina.com reported Friday. Personnel at the two nurseries, which have a combined population of 1,455 students, allegedly gave the children moroxydine hydrochloride tablets between November 2008 and October 2013. A total of 54,600 tablets were purchased from four drug retailers during the period. Parents said the nurseries probably administered the drugs to ensure the children’s attendance, as nursery fees were charged based on the number of days attended. The two nurseries have now been taken over by education authorities, the report said.
