Young and middle-aged consumers and people with a monthly income under 5,000 yuan (US$815) are the most active online shoppers in Shanghai, Shanghai Daily reported Thursday, citing the city’s statistics bureau. In a survey by the Shanghai Statistics Bureau, more than half of the 751 city residents surveyed had made purchases from online merchants, the report said. People with a monthly income of less than 5,000 yuan favored online shopping more than others, mainly due to convenience and bargains. They accounted for about two-thirds of the online shoppers that were surveyed. Only 8 percent of the consumers had a monthly income over 10,000 yuan.
