Thai court derails rail plans with China, Caixin says

An agreement that would have seen Chinese companies build high-speed railroads in Thailand is in trouble after a Thai court dealt a blow to a government plan to fund infrastructure projects, Caixin reported Thursday. Thailand’s Constitutional Court ruled Wednesday that the US$62 billion plan to build high-speed railroads, highways and mass-transit projects violated the constitution, the report said. The court’s ruling dims the outlook for the “railroad for rice” partnership between China and Thailand, deals in which some of Thailand’s payments for the projects would have come in the form of agricultural products like rice, it said.
