China to enhance public safety, govt says

The Ministry of Public Security has asked relevant agencies to build an integrated national system to enhance public safety, the ministry said on its website over the weekend. Adequate resources should be allocated to secure densely populated areas such as bus stations, ports, hospitals and public squares. As part of a crackdown on criminal activities, police will increase armed patrols in important places in Shanghai, Harbin, Changsha, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Kunming, Ürümqi and Lhasa, the statement said.
